Nordisk Familjebok

Jfr Rå-glas."

—from Nordisk Familjebok, 1920 (via Project Runeberg).

Rough English translation:

Trottoarglăs, molded glass plates afsedda [???] for placing in sidewalks, yard, etc., to admit light into the underlying premises. The plates are placed in separate frames of iron or cast into a reinforced concrete structure. Now, glass is usually in the form of lenses or prisms (called "Luxfer" glass) to better spread the light or throw it to the basement's sides. See raw glass.
