CHARLES THE SECOND, by the
grace of God, &c., to all to whom these Presents shall come, greeting. WHEREAS Edward Wyndus, Gentl., hath by his humble petic̃on represented vnto vs that hee hath with great labour and expense obteined "A DISCOVERY OF A NEW EXPERIMENT FOR THE GREAT AND DURABLE INCREASE OF LIGHT BY EXTRAORDINARY GLASSES AND LAMPS, VERY VSEFUL FOR OUR SERVICES, MORE ESPECIALLY FOR THE GREAT IMPROVMENT OF SHIP LANTHORNES, LIGHTHOUSES, DISPERSING OF LIGHT IN MINES, AND OTHER NECESSARY AND LIKE PROFITABLE VSUS WHICH REQUIRE LIGHT AND HEAT, AND FOR ALL OUR SUBIECTS IN THEIR SEVERALL VOCATIONS AND IMPLOYMENTS," and hath therefore humbly besought vs to grant him our Letters Patents for the sole vse, benefit and advantage of this his new Invenc̃on for the terme of fowrteene yeares, according to the Statute in that behalfe made and provided. KNOW YEE, THEREFORE, that wee being will that the said Edward Wyndus may reape some reasonable recompense and compensac̃on for his great paines and expenses in and about the premisses, and to encourage the inventers of such arts as may be of publick vse and benefit, of our especiall grace, certeine knowledge, and meere moc̃on, have given and granted, and by these Presents for vs, our heires and successors, doe give and grant vnto the said Edward Wyndus, his executors, administrators, and assignes, speciall license, full power, sole priviledge and authority, that hee, the said Edward Wyndus, his executors, administrators, or assignes, shall att any time agree with, and noe others, from time to time and att all times dureing the terme of yeares hereafter in these Presents expressed, shall and lawfully may vse, exercise, and enjoy the said Invenc̃on within any part or |
