TOUR SITES AND EXHIBITS
- MAIN OFFICE:
- Exhibits of pictures of the plant from 1880 to present.
Memorabilia of old time glass making.
- LAB:
- More pictures and hand tool exhibit. Complete insulator
exhibit, samples of raw materials that make up batch composition.
Glass bottles from Whitall Tatum, Armstrong Cork, Kerr Glass and
Foster-Forbes.
- MOLD SHOP: (Carl Gant, Foreman)
- Here moulds are reworked and maintained
for the forming machines which produce the glassware.
- MACHINE REPAIR: (Ron Whilden, Supervisor)
- This department is fully equipped
with tools and skilled personnel to repair and rebuild all
machinery in the plant.
- BATCH HOUSE: (O'Connell Brown, Supervisor)
- The material used in the
making of glass is mixed in this department and then transported
to the furnaces.
- FORMING DEPARTMENT: (Art Nuskey, Production Manager)
- Here glassware is made on
high-speed advanced forming machines turning out bottles and
jars. This well-equipped department is regarded by the glass
industry as one of the most modern in the country.
- INSPECTION AND PACKING: (Jan Keener, Cold End Manager)
- In this department, trained
inspectors examine all ware for defects as it comes off the lehrs
from the forming machines. They only pack ware that meets
customers specifications.
- 81 BASEMENT - CARTON FORMING DEPARTMENT:
- Here cartons are assembled or machine stapled and automatically
sealed for production.
- MAIN OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM:
- For film viewing of Whitall-Tatum glass making film.
