TOUR SITES AND EXHIBITS

MAIN OFFICE:
Exhibits of pictures of the plant from 1880 to present. Memorabilia of old time glass making.
LAB:
More pictures and hand tool exhibit. Complete insulator exhibit, samples of raw materials that make up batch composition. Glass bottles from Whitall Tatum, Armstrong Cork, Kerr Glass and Foster-Forbes.
MOLD SHOP: (Carl Gant, Foreman)
Here moulds are reworked and maintained for the forming machines which produce the glassware.
MACHINE REPAIR: (Ron Whilden, Supervisor)
This department is fully equipped with tools and skilled personnel to repair and rebuild all machinery in the plant.
BATCH HOUSE: (O'Connell Brown, Supervisor)
The material used in the making of glass is mixed in this department and then transported to the furnaces.
FORMING DEPARTMENT: (Art Nuskey, Production Manager)
Here glassware is made on high-speed advanced forming machines turning out bottles and jars. This well-equipped department is regarded by the glass industry as one of the most modern in the country.
INSPECTION AND PACKING: (Jan Keener, Cold End Manager)
In this department, trained inspectors examine all ware for defects as it comes off the lehrs from the forming machines. They only pack ware that meets customers specifications.
81 BASEMENT - CARTON FORMING DEPARTMENT:
Here cartons are assembled or machine stapled and automatically sealed for production.
MAIN OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM:
For film viewing of Whitall-Tatum glass making film. Approximately 30 minutes.
