THE SUNBURST PRISM.

In the illustrations given herewith are shown the Schwickart's "Sunburst" prism, made by the Universal Iron Foundry, 283-287 Scholes St., Brooklyn, for lighting cellars and other places deopending on a small are of lighting surface, all of which has to be utilize to the utmost extent possible to secure desired results.
In the illustrations we show in Fig. 1 the underside or ceiling surface. As will be seen this is all of glass and consequently all light producing. The arrangement of the prisms is such that on the underside the prisms butt against each other, show only the glass and give a decorative effect to the ceiling. Fig. 2 shows the upper or sidewalk

side, and shows the method of laying. In this cut is shown the completed work, the partially cemented prism, the glass simply placed in the frame and the bare iron framework. As will be seen, the construction is very simple and the work of setting can be execute with the utmost dispatch.
The cement used is a white cement. They can be set in cast-iron frames or without. They [continued on page 26] are also made in standard sections. They can also be easily repaired and cost no more than other good prism lights. They are suited not only for sidewalks, but for floors, roofs, vestibules and skylights.
