c) their advantages in service
The constancy of the quality of toughened glass insulators is obtained
thanks to the continuous production lines used and to the efficiency of
inspection to which they are conducive.
The very nature of toughened glass has made it possible to bring into
being insulators having certain characteristics unhoped for by users:
1 - practically negligible annual rate of replacement, this is due to a
very high mechanical strength and an unparalleled electric rigidity, and
results into very low maintenance cost.
2 - immediate visibility of defective insulators, through disappearance
of the skirt.
3 - practically negligible risk of line drops.
These advantages explain why the number of users of toughened glass
insulators has been increasing all the time.
